Does it seem like lots of modern music sounds the same?

I stumbled across this video recently and really dug it. Billy covers several elements that have played into the homogenization of modern music.

These factors are precisely why we emphatically prefer to make music that is not “perfect.”

Art is an expression. Regardless of the type of music, the production is as much a part of the song as the lyrics, instrumentation, players (skills, moods, vibe, etc.), melodies, and everything else.

Sometimes a production needs to be precise and clinical, but only in cases where that is a critical part of the expression.

More often, “precise” and “clinical” are not words an artist would use to describe how the song needs to sound and feel.
